Chick Flicks and See’s Candy

Linda on Feb 15th 2009

Valentine’s Day at the top of the Empire State Building, how romantic!  “Sleepless in Seattle” and a pound of See’s milk chocolate, how girlie!  No, I didn’t polish off a pound of chocolate.  If I did, I think most of you would be saying, “How pathetic?!”  I did have a couple of yummy pieces out of the box I bought my sister-in-law.  We spent the evening together.  First we attended her church.  Even though it wasn’t my church, I heard the message of the sermon, which was all about how God speaks to us, if we’re ready to listen.  We can hear Him through the Word, through lyrics, through a friend, through a different church, whatever, as long as we are ready to obey and listen. ‘Tween “Finding Nemo” and Mustaches

Linda on Apr 1st 2008

How old will Matthew be before I won’t worry about a full glass of liquid being too close to the edge of the table? By Wikipedia’s definition, he’s a “tween.” He is between the ages of eight and twelve and doesn’t quite understand how easily he could knock that glass over. He shuns the “kids’ menus,” insisting on eating adult portions in turn, skipping the safety of sippy cups for big glasses that threaten to spill. Today, however, he asked if we could rent “Finding Nemo,” at Blockbuster, a movie that he watched when he was five years old. Interestingly, he commented that I was just like Nemo’s father, “too protective.” Continue Reading »

Academy Awards 2007, Wait it’s 2008!

Linda on Feb 28th 2008

After a boring Academy Award ceremony celebrating movies from 2007, I thought I’d talk about an Oscar winning movie from 2006, “Little Miss Sunshine.”

Let me fill you in on something about me and movies. Obviously, I don’t watch them. I used to when I was dating and married. Mostly because I went to the movies on dates and my ex used to rent and record them. Going to Blockbuster to rent movies was part of his routine, like putting gas in the car, he’d rent movies. Albeit, they were usually action or big blockbuster types of movies. I’d watch them with him the first time and when he’d watch them repeatedly, I’d pass. “Oh, you’re going to watch ‘Independence Day’ or ‘Alien 4′ for the fourth time, well, I’m going dancing with the girls.” For five years, since my divorce, my entertainment center’s been bare. He inherited the VHS movie collection. VHS?!, That’s right. He started collecting DVD’s when he moved out. Continue Reading »

Seth Rogen, Redheads Are Hot!

Linda on Nov 10th 2007

I just completed “The 40 Year Old Virgin” and “Knocked Up” comedy tour. Watching them back to back, I can hardly wait to run to Blockbuster to rent “Superbad.” I tore down the Adrian Grenier photos that I immaturely taped to my computer and replaced them with Seth Rogen’s. I admire writers who create such outrageous characters. I’ve yet to create an over the top character but what I’m learning is that all I’d have to do is take some wacky tendencies and turn them on maximum overdrive. No wonder I can’t seem to get enough of the characters on “Weeds” and “Californication.” Why aren’t these shows an hour long? Funny how the scene in “Knocked Up,” when they guys are talking about “Munich,” mirrors the conversations I have with my friends. I was thrilled that they chose a movie where I absolutely love the lead actor, Eric Bana. Ha, I’m an outrageous character, Eric Bana was the guy I tore down to pin up Adrian Grenier’s photos on my computer. Continue Reading »
