My fourth guest blogger is April Gowdy, a music lover, who decided to use live music to help her heal from her divorce. I attended several of these concerts with her and I agree music does heal. She plans to continue her music tour with Santana, The Who and even Neil Diamond. She is not only a thoughtful person but a dear friend that I’ve known for over 25 years. Please enjoy her essay and ROCK ON!!
“In the end what you come to an artist for is their sense of things - their vision, understanding, perspective, what it means to be a human creature. What’s important, what’s beautiful, what’s strange, what’s painful, weird, ecstatic, what’s real. What matters.” (Chuck Plotkin, Music Producer) Continue Reading »
Is this funny? Or have I been living in a hot dog parallel universe? A certain ex of mine always interchanged the word hot dog (or would that be words?) in songs, movies, whatever. It mostly totally annoyed me. I’d be like, “When are you going to grow up?” Here are some examples, (Wonder if I am infringing any copyright laws right now?) Well, he knows where to find me. This one’s sung to Beck’s “Loser” I’m a hot dog baby, so why don’t you grill me? Hot Dogs at Tiffany’s or the latest one, Matthew’s dance recital song, by Domino “Business of Love” I’m just a hot dog in this business of bun.
When I saw this sign today, I laughed to myself and thought, those that live in glass houses, shouldn’t throw hot dogs. Why do I feel like I’m playing Mad Libs? Enjoy!
I searched through many Leroi Moore tribute videos on Youtube to share some of the magic I got to experience over the last twelve years. So many beautiful tributes and solos but the one video I chose to share with you is the one where Ifell in love with the band. At Tuesday night’s concert, Dave Matthews told a story about LeRoi at a bar in Virginia where Roi played the most beautiful version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow. Dave said, “that was the day I fell in love with him. And I’m still in love with him.” I remember having a VHS tape of this Crossroads performance and watching it over and over and over again. I even remember taking it with me on several vacations. I know, at bit fanatical and that was before I attended 30 something shows. Please enjoy!
Friends at Infinity Sport & Fitness asked me to write testimonials about the results I saw after doing boot camps, personal training and group training with them. I submitted the statements below. You can read more about the “fun” I had by clicking on the “weight/boot camp” category. The 91/2 inches and 10 pounds lost was actually after TWO boot camps, I never measured myself after the third one, but I did buy smaller jeans, and that’s all that really matters. I’ll let you know if they use them and where. Continue Reading »
On a recent business trip, I ordered dinner in my hotel room. When the food was brought up, the delivery guy was shocked to find a silent room. He said, “It’s so quiet in there, you’re not watching TV?” I said, “Nope, just doing some reading and writing, I’ve been around noise all day, I need the peace and quiet.” That night, I accomplished a lot and was secretly grateful my DVR was recording Joshua take the top prize on “So You Think You Can Dance.”
I actually look forward to being in different environments where time stealing habits can’t take me away from writing. Surfing the internet or television, talking on the phone and puttering around my house are some of those time thieves. Ah, the appeal of a writer’s retreat; a place to go and get away from the “noise” of life. However, since a retreat is not in my near future unfortunately, I have to discipline myself more to turn away from those activities and dig into peace and quiet where inspiration can create lots of writing!
