“legs and grass” by dL Powers

Linda on Jul 26th 2008

My third guest blogger is Ms. dL Powers, a photographer, whose observant nature always inspires me. She’s a multi-talented woman and a dear friend, who plans to explore her style and the world in photos! Please enjoy her work which “reminds me of warm summer days, running barefoot in the grass with not a care in the world.”

“It’s a Monumental Good Thing” - Devo

Linda on Jul 22nd 2008

I received some interesting feedback. A friend of mine said he tends to steer away from the entries on my blog that have the word God in them. He’s not an atheist. He believes in God, yet steers away from the word. With so much controversy over banning the word God from public use, it’s interesting how we’ve come up with less “offensive” terms. Recently I opened a book that used “God-force,” reminiscent of Higher Power. It seems people are more comfortable using terms like that. The challenges begin when we worship people and things of “Lower Power,” like rock stars, drugs, the body, Yogi Green Tea from Trader’s Joe’s. If you’ve tasted it, you know what I’m talking about. Putting the Pieces Together in God’s Plan

Linda on Jul 14th 2008

Matthew and I are working on a jigsaw puzzle. He began it alone on Friday and I started helping him yesterday. I’ve always loved jigsaw puzzles. As a kid I used to work on them with my mother. She seemed to enjoy doing them too, probably because we used to do them on the dining room table, which seems like a better idea than sitting on the floor waiting for your legs to fall asleep. Eleven Long-Haired Friends of Jesus in a Chartreuse Microbus- “Convoy” C.W. McCall

Linda on Jul 10th 2008

I wish I could say that I started carpooling because I was concerned about my carbon footprint. But honestly the reason a co-worker and I started to commute to work together last week was mostly to save money. With gas prices being so high, it was a wise decision for both of us. I only wish we started sooner. Since we both have children that need to be transported, we assumed it’d be too difficult to figure out. But with some minor adjustments, we realized “where there’s a will there’s a way.” In my case my son’s school and daycare are both literally around the block from my house, so my son is now walking to daycare and when school starts up, he’ll walk there as well. Also, I’m very lucky to live walking distance from the post office, supermarket, bank, Target, Trader Joe’s and of course a Starbucks. I don’t really need to drive anywhere unless I’m doing a big food shopping trip. Continue Reading »

Let Freedom Ring

Linda on Jul 6th 2008

On July 4th, I was channel surfing, when I came across a show on TBN about prisoners of the Vietnam War. I watched several elderly men talk about their horrific experiences of being injured, captured and tortured. Each man shared his individual nightmare with details only he could recall. And while each man’s account was different, they all shared a common bond; their faith in God. Some were held for a period of time in solitary confinement yet they knew they weren’t alone. They realized they could never be separated from God. One man said, “My prison experience went from faith in God, hope in God and love of God to knowledge of God.” These faithful men talked about hours of prayer and each one expressed how his relationship with God was tested and tried. Another gentleman said, “For seven and half years, I never wondered for one moment what I was doing there, the Lord was getting my attention.” Continue Reading »

Happy Fourth of July - “Peaceful World”

Linda on Jul 4th 2008

“The money’s good and the work’s ok
Looks like everything is rolling our way
Til you gotta look the devil in the eye
You know that bastard’s one big lie
So be careful with your heart and what you love
Make sure that it was sent from above
It’s what you do and not what you say
If you’re not part of the future then get out of the way

Come on baby take a ride with me
I’m up from Indiana down to Tennessee
Everything is cool as can be in a peaceful world”
